Texas Hill Country - 2018

Wednesday, June 27, 2018.

I had texted Dennis last week that I was going to be in his neighborhood so we had set up to meet at his place this affternoon and go to Fredericksburg for a German Dinner. So I got up early to hike along the dry riverbed that I had been watching the deer in the early evening. As I was leaving the resort complex I saw the herd of deer that they put the water buckets out for. Then didn't want to run, but were curious why I was out so early.

The views along the hike were quite pretty in spite of the draught conditions. Here and there some flowers were surviving and actually blooming still.

So we headed for Dennis' place in Kerrville planning to arrive around the 1 PM appointed time. So the sign for my turn off of highway 783 was obscurred by tree branches. When I was sure we missed the turn I called Dennis and he explained how to find the entrance to his subdivision. We were able to find his ranch after that hint. A tour of his house with explanation of plans still being completed.

Then we headed to Fredericksburg for an early dinner at the Altdorf Restaurant & Biergarden which has recently been renovated. It was still hot so we chose to seat inside instead of on the patio. The food was good. On the way out we saw a water well that they had discovered during the renovation process. It was interesting.

So then we headed back to Dennis' ranch. We ate early because I wanted to head back while there was still some daylight. It's hard to find your way around in the dark. Before we departed Dennis fed his pet deer herd so I was able to get some pretty good up close pictures.
