Piraeus Port

We got to sleep in a bit this morning, but after breakfast headed to the Port of Piraeus where we borded the Olympic Countess of the Royal Olympic Cruise lines. After decoding our room assignments, we found our luggage waiting for us outside our door. Waiting for casting off - Terese, Karl and Paul

Our journey through town and check in went quicker than expected so we had some leisure time to check out the boat before cast off. Then up several sets of stairs to our emergency assembly point where the crew verified we had donned our life vests correctly. Piraeus Port

Finally we were able to relax in the sun. Unfortunately the weather soon turned nasty and all the calm water in the pool was soon flying across the deck. It got a bit cool when the sun was hidden and the wind was blowing so hard. Eventually most of us went back to our rooms for a nap.

Mykonos

Finally as we approached Mykonos harbor blue and white buildings dotted the shoreline. Mykonos

The buildings were jutting out of the sides of the steep hills.

Because the water was still so rough, we had to tender ashore and take a bus into the town. Mykonos

The sun was already setting over the water and it started getting pretty dark along the path to the stores.

Even as we watched the sun go down, the fading town in front of us began to lighten up. We made our way up and down the narrow streets and shops. There were more fine jewelery makers and crafts shops here than back in Athens.

After a very short shore duty we made our way back to the ship for early dinner. Remy and I did not partake of the casino or Greek Dance lessons that night, but rather rested up for Rhodes.
