Big Bend National Park, El Paso, New Mexico

Thursday, October 29th :

After breakfast we both headed to El Paso. First I made a stop at the Marfa Lights viewing area. My itinerary had hoped to go there one evening to see if we could see the strange night lights that are rumored to be from aliens in the desert. With the weather so bad each day we never made that attempt.

On the other side of Marfa, just past Valentine, I came across the Prada Marfa Store that James had mentioned he saw on the way in. Apparently it was created as an art project by Elmgreen and Dragset with biodegradable adobe-like substance, the building is meant to dissolve back into the Earth, serving as a commentary on Western materialism.

A few days after the opening vandals broke the windows, looted the store, and wrote graffiti on the walls. When Elmgreen and Dragset repaired the building, but this time the store’s Prada wares are heavily alarmed, and stronger windows were installed to protect from forced entry. The handbags have no bottoms and all of the shoes are right-footed.

I was getting a little low on fuel so I stopped at the junction of I90 and I10 at Van Horn for a chilly dog and gas. When I arrived at Jame's house he was out getting some groceries and I wasn't sure if I should hug Diana or not. I think I did a fist bump. Got a tour of their house and later we went to the airport to pick up Gary and Chris.
