Just down the road a little way, we passed by Mt. Olympus. It was hard to see it in the fog at first, but later the clouds cleared
enough to get a good peak at it.
Robert Frazier was voted the most pure of heart, and therefore performed an incense burning and singing ceremony in view of Mt. Olympus. This was in
lieu of sacrificing a Virgin, which may have been hard to come by in our group. The incense was a gift from Father Eleutherios the day before.
Eventually we came to a park next to the river Pinios where we celebrated Mass. Many other people were here on this Sunday enjoying another beautiful day in Greece.
We attracted a few curiosity stares as we celebrated the Mass. You can download video of the mass readings by clicking here Pinios River Mass
Unfortunately the with the shadows casted by the bright sun through the tree leaves, the camera didn't do a good job on this capture.
Back on the road again, we shortly thereafter stopped at a studio where they make icons.
Aleca really got into describing the process that is used in the making of the icons to great detail.
It took a few minutes for the group to visit the WC and resassemble for class. Aleca really got into the details of how
the icons are made and painted. She covered everything from the types of wood used to the type of cloth, how it is stretched, sanded and finally painted.
The class continued in the main show room. Here she pointed out the steps that the priests/artist took in copying a picture onto
the prepared cloths.
He even demonstrated the depositing of the gold leaf onto the background of the image.
Those that purchased Icons brought them up to the artist for signing.
